In what’s become a local tradition, UBC’s CiTR radio station and Mint Records have teamed up to put together their third Pop Alliance compilation. Curated again by CiTR DJ Duncan McHugh, of Duncan’s Donuts, this latest installment packs together 14 cuts from B.C.–based artists like Weed, Korean Gut, and Fanshaw.

“We wanted to choose some of the best pop bands in town,” McHugh told the Straight. “It shows the generosity of bands in Vancouver that they were willing to jump onboard and contribute tracks.”

While the compilation features exclusive tracks from artists like Jay Arner and Aaron Read, a few previously released tunes made it onto the list, too—though that suits McHugh just fine. “I didn’t mind putting [Peace’s] ‘Your Hand in Mine’ on the record, because it’s one of my favourite songs of the last couple years,” he said.

Mint and CiTR’s Pop Alliance—Volume 3 drops on March 5 in a limited pressing of 300 LPs, but will also be available digitally. A record-release party will be held on March 8 at Chapel Arts as part of CiTR’s Fundrive, and will feature performances by Peace, Gal Gracen, Sleuth, and more.
