Beekeeper at the Biltmore

Here in the  Straight music section, we heartily endorse shouting at people. Someone moving too slow on the sidewalk when you’ve got places to see and people to do? A good old “Outta the way, Pokey!” should do it (and never underestimate the efficacy of a well-timed elbow to the ribs). Wasting your valuable time in a waiting room? Start screeching the lyrics to Cannibal Corpse’s immortal “Stripped, Raped, and Strangled” and we can pretty much guarantee you that someone will rush out to see you in short order.

Apparently, the members of Beekeeper think like we do. At least that’s what we gather from the fact that the Vancouver trio titled its new EP Shout at People. We’ve heard it already, and it’s tuneful and hooky and all of those good things you want from your indie pop, with enough time-signature changes to please all of you who prefer to listen to music with a slide rule in one hand.

Beekeeper celebrates the release of Shout at People with a show at the Biltmore Cabaret on Saturday (February 9), and you should totally go. Please refrain from shouting things at the band, though. That’s just rude.
