Over the last few years, the Zoo Zhop has gained a reputation as one of the most supportive venues in town. Case in point: when Vancouver artist White Poppy was invited to play the SXSW festival in March, Zoo Zhop owner David Mattatall’s quick response was “Let’s put on a fundraiser for you!” The resulting show, happening Saturday (February 23), features White Poppy, Lft orch, Mourning Coup, Wetface, and Robert Downey, Sr. (aka Mattatall).

Meanwhile, White Poppy (known to her mail carrier as Crystal Dorval) has been busy writing and recording her first LP. “I play everything on it, I recorded it myself, and it’s my first vinyl record,” she told the Straight. “So I’m really excited about it.” Stay tuned for a release on Not Not Fun Records this spring.
