Squamish Valley Music Festival lineup announced

This year's fest promises a mix of international critical faves and hometown heroes.

      This year’s Squamish Valley Music Festival lineup has officially been unveiled, and it promises a mix of international critical faves and hometown heroes.

      The lineup for this year’s festival, taking place August 9 to 10 at Hendrickson Fields & Logger Sports Ground, was announced tonight (March 1) at the Commodore Ballroom.

      British Columbia-bound headliners for the two-day blowout include Josh Homme’s Queens of the Stone Age, gypsy-punk mashup kings Gogol Bordello, Afrobeat-tinted pop alchemists Vampire Weekend, and post-Southern rockers Band of Horses

      Also included will be Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Jurassic 5, Divine Fits, Childish Gambino, and Young the Giant.

      Representing Vancouver will be the homegrown likes of indie troubadour Dan Mangan, honey-harmonied retro-rockers Yukon Blonde and The Matinée, alt-country upstarts Dustin Bentall and the Smøkes, indie-pop outfit Said the Whale, and soul-revival monsters the Ballantynes.

      Paul Runnals of brand.LIVE, which founded Squamish Festival, told the Commodore audience: "2013 is posed to be our biggest year to date with increased capacity, as well as expanded camping and shuttle bus programs to accommodate the growing needs of our fans."

      Live Nation Canada, which is co-promoting the Squamish Valley Music Festival, emphasized the mix of local and out-of-province talent.

      “This year’s festival promises a well-rounded showing of local, regional, and international artists, greatly expanding on the last year’s vision,” said Erik Hoffman, vice president of talent for Live Nation Canada.

      Tickets for the Squamish Valley Music Festival go on sale at March 8 at 10 a.m., with weekend tickets starting at $149 plus service charges.
