Electric Six at Venue

A long time ago—well, actually, 2001 or so, which might as well be 1909 the way time flies these days—Vancouver was ruled by a breed of music fan known simply as the “white belts”. To show up at a gig wearing said accessory was to proudly announce that you were hip enough to know that the White Stripes weren’t really a brother-and-sister act, that Ben Swank wasn’t a porno star, and that Detroit was the hippest town since Seattle circa ’93. And you know who the white belts loved every bit as much as the Soledad Brothers and the Von Bondies? That would be Motor City mashup kings the Electric Six, who were famous for sticking greasy garage, revved-up soul, and booze-jacked disco into an amphetamine-powered blender. The Stripes, Von Bondies, and Soledad Brothers are, of course, either long gone or totally irrelevant. Lucky for you, Electric Six—at Venue on Saturday (March 9)—is not. You know what to wear to this one, at least where your belt is concerned.
