A respected North American festival will be getting its very own local spinoff, as Austin Psych Fest has teamed up with homegrown promoter Timbre Concerts to launch Levitation Vancouver, which will come to our city this spring.

The three-day festival will begin with a launch party at the Rickshaw Theatre on June 5. Malkin Bowl will host all-day events on June 6 and 7, with late-night after-parties taking place at clubs around Main Street. The lineup includes Black Mountain and Dead Moon, with many more bands to be announced soon.

Timbre’s director of marketing and bookings manager Zach Herbert told the Straight that Malkin Bowl will be the site for “psych-pop, psych-garage, metal psych, electronic psych—bigger headline names”. The various after-parties will focus on smaller acts from specific subgenres. There will be lots of variety, but Herbert promises that all of the artists are “experimental, psych-inclined, anything with a bit of an edge”.

All-access passes go on sale soon, with other ticketing options to follow soon after. Levitation is expected to become an annual event.
