Lucinda Williams at the Vogue Theatre

No other songwriter can break your heart like Lucinda Williams can.

Although the Louisiana native has written some gorgeously romantic songs, her speciality is dissecting love’s aftermath, especially when poor choices, substance abuse, and self-loathing factor in. If that sounds like a downer, consider that Williams has a survivor’s strength, and she’s known for touring with giddily brilliant bands.

The best thing, though, is that if you catch her at the Vogue Theatre on Thursday (February 12) you’ll still have until Valentine’s Day to prove to your sweetie that you’re nothing like the drunken, lying bastards that populate her songs. Note, too, that if she plays “Passionate Kisses”, Cupid might even show up early.
