Her students at Langara College know her as Ms. Holland (probably). The rest of us recognize Deborah Holland from her days in Animal Logic with Police drummer Stewart Copeland.

Next weekend, patrons of the Tipper Restaurant & Review Room (2216 Kingsway) will form a more intimate acquaintance with the singer-songwriter when she fires up her monthly event, The Last Saturday Night.

“I got tired of scrambling around looking for gigs,” Holland, who moved to Vancouver in 2010, told the Straight. “I’d played at the Tipper before and it’s a great little room, and I just thought I’d try and create my own little residency, as it were.”

Along with multi-instrumentalist Matt Koyanagi, Holland will welcome a guest each month. Next Saturday (February 28), she’s joined by Straight film critic Ken Eisner in his guise as a guitarist-vocalist. No word on a Copeland appearance, however.

The Last Saturday Night takes place on, well, the last Saturday night of every month.
