More solo goodness from the Capitol 6 camp

Capitol 6 bassist Matt Krysko releases his first solo effort this week.

Calling the record Selected Works 2005-2013, Krysko has doubled down on an idea his bandmate Malcolm Jack pioneered with his solo album, I Am My Own Bewitchment, back in April. As with that record, Krysko has produced an “album-zine”: a small booklet containing notes, drawings, photos, and “riddles” that comes with a download code.

“I think Malcolm came up with it. We’re just trying to do something new,” Krysko told the Straight. “It gets something into people’s hands. I think having it in this format, you notice each individual song a bit more. You can open it up to one page and get an idea of what [Malcolm] or I are trying to say, you know? It’s pretty direct.”

You can grab Selected Works—an acid-folk exercise with hints of Rodriguez and solo John Lennon—when Krysko holds an album release party at the China Cloud, on Thursday (July 25).
