India's most popular composer, A.R. Rahman, is coming to Vancouver's Orpheum Theatre on June 16. Tickets go on sale just after noon.

The "Mozart of Madras", as Rahman is sometimes called, is responsible for a bevy of Bollywood and South Indian movie soundtracks.

He won an Oscar in 2009 for providing the music for "Jai Ho" in Slumdog Millionaire and was nominated for an Oscar in 2011 for writing the music for "If I Rise" in 127 Hours.

He's touring North America, starting on May 21 in Huntington, New York. Expect pandemonium to break out when he plays in Toronto on May 25, given the city's enormous Tamil population.

His music also appeared in The Hundred Foot Journey, Million Dollar ArmWater, and other western films.

Below, you  can hear Rahman's "Challa" as it was performed in legendary director Yash Chopra's final film, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, in 2012. The juxtaposition of Rahman's music with Chopra's images of London will likely remain etched in fans' memories for years to come.

Shahrukh Khan lip syncs A.R. Rahman's "Challa".

Rahman likes to experiment with different styles of music. Below, you can hear how he demonstrated his mastery of Sufi rhythms in the beautifully shot "Khwaha Mere Khwaja", which was featured in the 2008 film Jodhaa Akbar starring Hrithik Roshan.
