Hundreds if not thousands of screaming teenagers of Taiwanese descent will be on the plaza of the Vancouver Art Gallery Plaza on Sunday night (September 1) to hear Asian singing sensation Princess Balenge (aka Rachel Liang). It’s probably your only chance to experience the pandemonium that accompanies this Mandopop crooner wherever she goes. You may be asking yourself “Who the hell is Princess Balenge, anyway?” She came first in the Million Star competition on Taiwanese television, so she’s the Taipei version of American Idol winners like Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson. The concert comes courtesy of Telus TaiwanFest, which takes over downtown every Labour Day weekend.
