Spoon at Malkin Bowl

Britt Daniel is no longer farting around with Divine Fits and has returned to his real band, Spoon, bringing Divine Fits keyboardist Alex Fischel along with him.

Spoon’s latest album, They Want My Soul, is the long-time Merge Records act’s first release for its new label, Loma Vista Recordings. And it’s a beaut, a full-on return to form, suggesting that all that time off was actually a worthwhile exercise in battery-charging. The fully refreshed Texans will bring their always-gripping live show to Stanley Park’s majestic Malkin Bowl on Sunday (May 24).

As incentive to turn up early, note that the show will be opened by Future Islands, aka that act that famously blew up after vocalist (and Stanley Kowalski dopplegänger) Samuel T. Herring went on Letterman and barked like a grindcore grunter while the rest of his band swished through a synth-draped soft-pop number.
