“Mama” Towers (real name Elizabeth) has some seriously impressive support. The 64-year-old mother of Five Alarm Funk’s Neil and Tom Towers has been battling cancer for three years, but has sadly come to the point at which alternative treatment appears to be her best option. On Saturday (May 23), the Imperial hosts a benefit for Towers featuring her sons, along with headliners Hey Ocean! (performing an acoustic set), Claire Mortifee, Jasper Sloan Yip, Sangito Bigelow (with members of Kutapira), and a few other surprise guests.

“She doesn’t really have the immune system to go through another surgery,” explained Towers’s daughter, Lily, who organized the fundraiser. “She hadn’t considered alternative treatments because she just can’t afford it.”

Lily Towers hopes that the show, along with a silent auction, will raise enough cash to put Mom in the care of Dr. Walter Lemmo’s Thrive Alive Foundation.
