From the file marked “Influential Bands You’ve Probably Never Heard”—more specifically those from Lawrence, Kansas—comes the Appleseed Cast.

The band’s journey from emo to postrock, touching on all points in between, has ensured that it will never have the mass following it arguably deserves, but as the Appleseed Cast’s sizable cult following could tell, albums such as Low Level Owl (both volumes!) and Sagarmatha ought to be required listening for anyone with a taste for masterfully played, experimental rock music.

And that makes attendance at the group’s show at the Cobalt on Monday (July 13) absolutely mandatory.
