Palma Violets at Venue

Thank God they survived. When the Straight talked to England’s Palma Violets earlier this year, the group was suffering a serious case of the meat sweats, this having everything to do with a stop at In-N-Out Burger in L.A. Despite that, the band’s members were also more excited than Miley Cyrus in a strip club on amateur night, this a byproduct of finding themselves in America for the first time. You don’t know the meaning of the term jacked up until you’ve talked to a guy so revved-up he has to take a pee mid-conversation. Fast-forward six months and Palma Violets has returned for another round of touring, this seeing the band land at Venue on Tuesday (October 15). Expect a guitar-heavy proto-pop attack designed to make you wonder if it’s time to throw away your Skrillex records and invest in a Sears-issue Silvertone. After all, by pledging allegiance to the likes of the Clash and the Velvet Underground, the group waltzed away with NME’s best-new-band award for 2013. Before it hit the stage that night, by the way, at least three band members apparently had to go take a pee.
