Oysterband at St. James Hall

A few years back Oysterband blew the roof off St. James Hall on a sweltering summer evening. On Thursday (August 13), the veteran U.K. quintet looks set to repeat the feat—same venue, same weather—with its combustive mix of rock, political folk, and traditional Anglo-Celtic music.

Formed in the English oyster capital of Whitstable in Kent, Oysterband has headlined festivals for four decades and recorded some 30 albums of mostly original songs, so there’s plenty of strong material on which to draw, including “When I’m Up (I Can’t Get Down)”, which became a major hit for the Newfoundland trio Great Big Sea.
