Guitarist Stephen Nikleva has gigged with Ray Condo, Petunia and the Vipers, Veda Hille, Paul Hyde, and Sarah McLachlan, among others. This Saturday (November 16), however, he returns to his original band, art-punk eccentrics Red Herring—CiTR Shindig! winner circa 1985—for its first reunion show since 2001, alongside vocalist-keyboardist Enrico Renz and the original rhythm section of Martin Walton and Steve Lazin.

The PropHouse [1636 Venables Street] is not a large place,” Nikleva told the Straight. “It has almost more of a coffee-house atmosphere, and the band is just coming together and exploring where we’re at. We’re playing some of the old songs, but Enrico has kept writing, and we’re going to be literally opening up his book of songs and playing some of them for the first time. It’s like a work in progress. We’ll probably do a couple of these and then maybe play a bigger place where people can dance.”

Admission is $5. You can check out the vintage videos for “Taste Tests” and “The Crab Song” on YouTube for a sneak preview.
