Nothing like a little old-fashioned sacrilege for the baby Jesus’s birthday, which comes right off the top on Home for Christmas. The last time we checked, Susan Boyle wasn’t a member of the Memphis Mafia, and she wasn’t holding the toilet-paper roll when Elvis Aaron Presley kicked it on the crapper back in 1977. Yet here she is, duetting her lungs out with the King on the treacly leadoff track “O Come All Ye Faithful”. As for the rest of an album that’s guaranteed to have zero appeal to anyone under 62, you’re getting the same endlessly recycled crap (“Little Drummer Boy”) delivered with a gag-inducing production job that makes the work of David Foster seem like an on-the-rag Rick Rubin. If Boyle is indeed coming home for Christmas, it’s time to pull the curtains and turn off all the lights.
