      It Feels Like Christmas Time

The first thing you notice is that the swing revivalists from Swingers seem afraid to take off their ties and start sweating. The kickoff “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” sounds like Preservation Hall on a Sunday night, while “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” is recast as a sanitized bump-and-grind burlesque number. Elsewhere, “Jingle Bells” is more Andrews Sisters than Brian Setzer and “We Three Kings” takes a funereal tack. Still, even if Big Bad Voodoo Daddy plays things safe, the playing is top-notch, especially if you’ve got a thing for the days when Cab Calloway and Glen Miller were kings. As opposed to, say, the Royal Crown Revue and the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies.
