CelticFest Vancouver celebrates its 10th birthday with a blowout at the Vogue Theatre on March 14. In appropriate fashion, Ross Powell has assembled a sizzling bill that includes one of the most touted new folk bands on the planet, Limerick five-piece Hermitage Green.

“They’ve been touring with the Pogues, and they’re just catching fire over in Ireland and Europe,” the program director told the Straight. “We’re so lucky to have snapped them up. People will say, ‘I saw them at CelticFest when they were just out of the gate.’”

The bill is rounded out by acclaimed Newfoundland trio the Once—likely to prompt the same kind of chatter—along with Jayme Stone’s Lomax Project and Vancouver’s ever-great CelticFest stalwarts, the Paperboys.

Prior to that, Hermitage Green will also headline an evening at the Rickshaw Theatre with Vancouver’s Vagabonds on March 8.

Ceili’s Kitchen Party is a new addition to the festival lineup, with head Paperboy Tom Landa joined by a roster of players for a well-lubricated jam taking place at Ceili’s Modern Irish Pub on March 13. The CelticFest Ceilidh returns to FanClub on March 15, also with banjoist Jayme Stone, this time in the company of local legends Mad Pudding, among others.

CelticFest Vancouver paints the town green from March 8 to 16. For the full rundown of events—many of them free—visit www.celticfestvancouver.com/.
