One Long Day (Black Box)

SonReal’s “Everywhere We Go” was the biggest song released in 2013 by any Vancouver indie musician. And if you want to argue about that, let’s just agree that it washed the nasty taste out of our mouths left by the city’s last “hit” rap track, “How the West Was Won” by Kyprios.

Since it was uploaded in August, the video for “Everywhere We Go” has clocked over 900,000 views on YouTube. Sure, you can buy a million views for your video for $300 from shady Internet sites, but each one of the man born Aaron Hoffman’s are well-earned, as it’s an outstanding song and video.

Building off that momentum, the 28-year-old Drizzciple has just debuted his latest, One Long Day, on a little-known website called the Source. The 11-song mix tape, which actually feels more like an LP, features quick-witted and hilarious rhymes complemented by appearances by Kardinal Offishall and Shad (on “Monday Night” and “Today & Tomorrow”, respectively), as well as production courtesy of local superproducer Chin Injeti on “L.A.”. Other standout tracks on this worthwhile listen include “Shits Epic”, “Luck”, “Honor Roll”, and “Believe”.
