Vicious Cycles beat thieves

When the Vicious Cycles climb onstage at the Cobalt on Friday (April 25) to celebrate the release of new album Bad News Travels Fast, they’ll be using a whole bunch of gear that got ripped off from their jam space last week.

“I had several instruments missing; I got them all back,” said Rob Wright in a call to the Straight.

The bassist added they’re “elated” that anything was returned, although guitarist-vocalist Billy Bones is still short one Sparrow Twangmaster he built himself.

“It doesn’t hold a ton of monetary value, but obviously it’s something that he’s attached to.”

Eagle-eyed friends who learned of the break-in at the band’s East Side digs—Greenback High, Piggy, and the Jolts were also hit hard—found the items after scouring the streets, pawn shops, and Craigslist.

Between the bands, roughly $20,000 in equipment was lifted and $15,000 subsequently returned.

Wright acknowledged that it’s a somewhat miraculous turn of events. Also miraculous: the monstrous mix of vintage punk, Pacific Northwest garage, and killer style achieved on the VC’s new Dave Carswell–produced album.
