Wet Secrets guarantee a Saturday spectacle at the Cobalt

There’s nothing better than getting in on the ground floor—ask anyone who saw Hole at the Town Pump, the White Stripes at the Pic Pub, or Adele at the Red Room. If the stars align correctly, you end up with bragging rights forever.

With that in mind, chances are you’re looking for the possible next big thing this holiday weekend. After all, what the hell else is there to do? The Super Bowl is for the kind of jocks that used to beat you up on a daily basis in high school, and there isn’t enough liquor in the province to get you through a visit with your family on Family Day.

Cue Edmonton's Wet Secrets at the Cobalt for an early show this Saturday (February 5).

Those who haven’t had the good sense to get the hell out of Oiler City and move to Vancouver know the sextet as past winners of the Alberta Peak Performance Project.

Those who understand nothing entertains like a spectacle,  meanwhile, have long appreciated the group’s penchant for playing dress-up when it hits the stage. Seriously, is there anything fucking cooler than a group with a thing for matching red-and-white marching band uniforms?

Musically speaking, think early-’90s-alt-pop-meets-‘00s-indie shot through with a lethal dose of ’60s garage. Or better yet, don’t think, but instead just get your ass down to the Cobalt. Show up early for local dancefloor detonators Sex With Strangers, who’ll be opening the show, and then stay after the Wet Secrets are done for one of the city’s most reliably epic dance parties, Glory Days.

Don’t forget to drink your face off. It’s not like you have to get up early to make chip dip for Super Bowl Sunday. Or, even worse, make plans to see your folks on Family Day.

Should you require a further visual to get you motivated, here’s the Wet Secrets doing "Maybe We'll Make a Plan". And, yes, it’s not only great, but nearly as awesome as being able to say you saw them on the ground floor.
