Electro Vaudeville Festival at the Waldorf

Some things go together so perfectly it’s almost enough to make you forget about the chemistry between Sonny & Cher.

Take the Waldorf Hotel, for instance, which, way back in the day, was home to a monthly night hosted by the long-defunct Blue Lizard Cocktail Club. (Hands up if you remember catching Michael Bublé when he was still a struggling club kid.) The bartender served up Sidecars and Angel’s Tits while folks made like the golden era of alcoholism never died.

While it’s been quiet for a couple of years since the building was sold to condo developers, the Waldorf comes back to life this Saturday (May 10) for the Electro Vaudeville Festival. On tap, in no particular order, will be imported mashup DJ Dutty Moonshine, retro-jazzers Deanna Knight & the Hot Club Of Mars, Italian electro-swing specialist the Sweet Life Society, as well as an undercard including Lady Josephine, Vanity Feral the Cheshire Cat of Burlesque, the HighSiders, High Society, and Sound Architecture. And that’s just a taster.

The only possible downside is that there’s no word if Sidecars and Angel’s Tits will be on the cocktail list, or if a certain cat named Bublé will be popping in for a surprise set. Other than that, this is your chance to drag cocktail culture into 2014.
