Vancouver-spawned Bob Moses among nominees for first Electronic Music Awards

Bob Moses—comprised of Vancouverites Jimmy Vallance and Tom Howie—will be joining Skrillex, Calvin Harris, Jamie XX, Diplo, and Kygo as acts that will make history on April 14.

All are among the nominees for the inaugural Electronic Music Awards, which will take place at Los Angeles’s SLS Hotel.

The brainchild of superstar DJ Paul Oakenfold and L.A.’s TV4 Entertainment, the awards focus exclusively on the world’s top EDM artists.

The seven categories will recognize both songs and musicians (single of the year, album of the year, DJ of the year, best new artist) and tastemakers devoted to furthering the genre (radio show of the year, festival of the year, and club of the year).

Brooklyn-based Bob Moses, which the Straight profiled last year, is nominated in the best new artist category.

The mission statement of the Electronic Music Awards & Foundation is slightly more inspirational than the likes of the Grammys or MTV Video Music Awards. The EMAF website notes that the organization is “dedicated to help change the lives of young people in need and shine a light on the next generation of talented DJs, artists, and producers ready to break the mold in electronic music.”.

Those who’d love to jet to L.A. for the first red-carpet instalment of the event, but can’t get time off from work, can take solace in the fact that Fox will be airing a one-hour version of ceremony on April 23 at 5 p.m.
