You know what’s good, besides the beer at Steamworks and the food at Kanaka in Gastown? Things that are free.

And also getting the chance to discover tomorrow’s next big thing today. On those fronts, you aren’t going to do much better than the totally free Make Music Vancouver, a 5-to-10 p.m. musical blowout in Gastown on Wednesday (June 25), where you won’t have to pay cover to discover the underground acts of tomorrow today. Possibly the most eclectic music event of the year, the street party includes over 100 acts falling under a good couple-dozen genres, from punk and samba to surf and country. And don’t forget, in no particular order, classical, alternative cabaret, hip-hop, indie rock, world fusion, reggae, EDM, and funk. The only way you aren’t going to find something to love is if you are some miserable misanthrope who doesn’t like music, Gastown, or things that are free. As for the rest of us, this is our chance to say “We saw them when…”
