Beyond the Black Rainbow soundtrack drops

Sinoia Caves’ soundtrack to the 2010 movie Beyond the Black Rainbow gets a long-awaited release on September 2.

The analogue-synth score was an instant rave for anyone who’d ever grooved on the film work of Tangerine Dream or John Carpenter, so it’s appropriate that Jagjaguwar has teamed with vintage-soundtrack specialists Death Waltz Recording Company for the occasion.

Talking to the Straight back when Rainbow was released, Sinoia Caves (aka Jeremy Schmidt) praised the visionary work of director and Vancouverite Panos Cosmatos, and noted that the film’s astounding retro flair offered a collaboration waiting to happen.

“I could see there was something pretty special going on,” he said, describing his first viewing of a rough cut. “The nice thing with this film is that it looked and felt synonymous with the kind of music I was already doing.”
