Dreamcast 1.0 provides a different sonic adventure
Not too long ago, promoter Natasha Lands and friends were hanging out and brainstorming how they would throw their ideal party. That event would involve a Sega Dreamcast, they decided. And so will Dreamcast 1.0, which is happening at 1885 Clark Drive this Saturday (August 30).
“The space we’ve rented is very, very, very large,” Lands told the Straight. “So one area is going to be dedicated to the actual physical party, and another area is going to be more of an interactive, fun kind of lounge.”
Providing music for the evening are Los Angeles–based DJ Djemba Djemba and Hawaii’s Mr. Carmack, plus friends Great Dane and King Henry. Djemba Djemba is letting it be known he’ll be defending bragging rights on a Ping-Pong table.
Since the world’s first sixth-generation console was released at the dawn of this millennium, technology once the exclusive domain of Japanese wizards has advanced to let private citizens burn their own video games. Lands says she can therefore guarantee a huge catalogue, including her favourite, Sonic Adventure.
“Come to the party and you can dance,” Lands says. “Or you can play Sega.”
