The Pizza Underground at the Rickshaw Theatre

In spite of what you might have read on the Internet, Macaulay Culkin is very much alive. (It’s his career as a Hollywood star that’s dead, but that seems to be by choice and that’s another story anyway.)

If you don’t believe it, see for yourself when Culkin and his band, the Pizza Underground, headline the Rickshaw Theatre with Har Mar Superstar on Sunday (November 23).

As far as concepts for joke bands go, performing Velvet Underground songs with pizza references inserted into the lyrics is right up there with playing reggae versions of Led Zeppelin numbers with an obese Elvis impersonator as the frontman. Or dressing up as a homeless drug addict and spoofing Jimi Hendrix. (Yes, the Jimi Homeless Experience is actually a thing, and yes, it is every bit as appallingly offensive as it sounds.)

Nonetheless, if you’re a fan of Home Alone, Lou Reed, Papa John’s Frito Chili Pizza, or any combination of the above, you’ll probably feel compelled to check out the Pizza Underground—if only to confirm that Kevin McAllister is still breathing and that it’s pretty hard to fuck up VU songs no matter how much cheese you pile on top.
