604 Records Garage Sale promises merch, deep discounts, and the promise of selfies with the stars

The great thing about garage sales is that—much like that box of chocolates in Forrest Gump—you never quite know what you're going to get. At various points Straight staffers have been lucky enough to stumble on a mint copy of Slow’s seminal Against the Glass ($5), a ‘30s-vintage cocktail shaker priced at 25 cents, and a stack of 1970s Playboys that were free (providing you promised to actually read the articles).

That element of surprise is precisely what makes the 604 Records Garage Sale this Saturday (September 10) so wonderfully intriguing. Given the list of high-profile acts that have recorded for the local label over the years, the prospect of what might be laid out at 795 East Cordova Street from noon to 4 p.m. is nothing less than tantalizing.

Might there be old Nickelback laminates from when Chad Kroeger and Company were still playing the Starfish Room? Used Carly Rae Jepsen lipstick tubes? A horn honked by the python-sized penis of Tommy Lee? Or a $10 laptop, fully loaded with the latest version of Ableton, that once belonged to the Chainsmokers?

The only way to find out is to pop by the 604 Records Garage Sale, which takes place Saturday at 795 East Cordova Street from noon to 4 p.m. Entrance is through the rear doors, and you’ll need to bring cash rather than a credit card, cheques, or bitcoins.

Various 604 Records artists will be onsite to sign autographs and—if you’re lucky—pose for selfies with you and your best 15 friends. (While there’s no guarantee that any one particular act will be there, we will point out that Vancouver’s Marianas Trench, Theory of a Deadman, and Daniel Wesley all have deep ties to 604).

There will be snacks for sale, deep discounts, as well as five deluxe 604 Records gift boxes up for grabs filled with music and various merchandise items. (The five gift box winners will be called at 4 p.m.)

Oh, and should you be lucky enough to stumble on an Organ hoodie from when the late-great band released Grab That Gun on 604, be prepared to fight at least three Straight staffers before you get to the cash register.
