      The Christmas Song

Can we declare a moratorium on new recordings of date-rape how-to “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”, for, say, five years? Just wanted to throw that out there. Having said that, Jamey Johnson’s version (featuring Lily Meola) is pretty good, with a mellow, rootsy, feel-good vibe that permeates this entire five-song EP. The way Johnson’s smooth-outlaw baritone is offset by the backing vocals of the Secret Sisters makes “Mele Kalikimaka” the standout, though, even if no one will ever top Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters.
