The Fox Cabaret creates new live music night, 4x4

If, as the old saying goes, bad things come in threes, good things must come in fours. Right?

The Fox Cabaret certainly thinks so. Launching a new live music series this Thursday named 4x4, the venue is setting the stage to feature some of the city’s best up-and-coming musical talent. Featuring four local bands playing for four bucks cover, the Fox is basically asking you to pay just one loonie per hour of entertainment. (Which, if you look it up, is cheaper than placing a one minute call to Turkey. Just in case you needed us to put that price into perspective.)

Fuelling the night will be a selection of drink specials that are—you guessed it—also four dollars, with the downstairs bar in full operation.

The evening will include performances from indie crooner and prolific Vancouver musician James Green, whose other musical credits include drumming in punk outfit Did You Die. Changing the tone will be Funk Shwey, a self-described “wok-and-roll (Asian cuisine) band”, whose bass-heavy funk and soul vibe throws back to the best of the ‘70s. Wallgrin, the experimental art-pop solo project of classically-trained musician Tegan Wahgren, is slated to be next to the stage, with art-rock New West trio Douse completing the lineup with its poignant guitar lines and female vocals.

And did we mention that the whole event is just four dollars?

4x4 is at the Fox Cabaret on Thursday (March 9). Doors open at 8 p.m.
