If you love Latin jazz and Cuban rumba, you won’t want to miss the Pedrito Martinez Group at St. James Hall this Sunday (April 23).

Havana-born singer and percussionist Martinez, based in the United States since 1998, plays congas, cajón, timbales, and the bata drums (used only in rituals and ceremonies of Santería, the Afro-Cuban religion in which he’s a priest). Martinez has contributed to more than 50 albums and worked with the likes of Paul Simon, Sting, Bruce Springsteen, and Paquito D’Rivera.

When he comes to Vancouver he’ll be leading his crack quartet of musicians from New York’s vibrant Latin scene, performing songs from their second album, Habana Dreams.
