Archers of Loaf documentary What Did You Expect? screens at the Waldorf
Gorman Bechard’s Archers of Loaf documentary What Did You Expect? is quite different from the U.S. filmmaker’s previous venture, Color Me Obsessed: A Film About the Replacements. Sonic differences between the wiry North Carolina alt-rock unit and the forefathers of Minneapolis drunk-rawk aside, the director actually got the Archers to appear in his latest flick (the Mats were never actually seen or heard in Color Me Obsessed).
The film chronicles two reunion shows in North Carolina last year, and features sweaty concert footage and candid interviews with the band. As a long-time friend and fan of the act, Bechard felt thrilled to preserve the Archers’ heartfelt second act. The movie screens next Wednesday (September 19) at the Waldorf, and Bechard says you won’t regret seeing it.
“Next to [Jonathan Demme’s Talking Heads flick] Stop Making Sense, it’s probably the greatest concert film of all time” he told the Straight. “I don’t mean to pat myself on the back—I wish someone else had made it so I could enjoy it as a fan.”
