Céu at the Rio Theatre

Okay, if your full name was Maria do Céu Whitaker Poças, you might want to be called Céu, too. Certainly, a visit from this sublime Brazilian singer-songwriter will bring a little bit of heaven to Vancouverites when we get a rare chance to see her when the Straight presents Céu on Tuesday night (June 26) at the Rio Theatre. Her new album Caravana Sereia Bloom, like her self-titled 2005 debut, is on San Francisco’s hip Six Degrees label, and continues her quest to combine catchy originals with experimental sounds, encompassing dub, tango, surf guitar, and ultra-cool electronica.
