D.B. Buxton bucks off to eastern Canada
You may have caught D. B. Buxton on local stages either solo or with his band, Orpheans. Or maybe you caught him hammering out Tom Waits and Sparks covers on a beat-up Gretsch somewhere along the Granville strip. Either way, by the time you read this, the gravel-throated performer-busker will be gone. He and his girlfriend and collaborator, Katelyn Molgard, have packed their things up and headed east.
“I’m not permanently moving anywhere,” he told the Straight, hinting that the pair will bounce between Toronto and Montreal for the next little bit. The Edmonton-raised blues-smith listed the cost of living and being hassled on the busking circuit by police and local business owners as a couple of reasons for leaving Lotusland. “I’ve been going broke trying to survive in Vancouver the last few years,” he said. Hoping to find better luck elsewhere, Buxton added that he’s traditionally well-received out East.
