Drive-By Truckers

With three guitarists leading the attack, it was no surprise that the Drive-By Truckers' last appearance at Richard's on Richards was the loudest local show of 2003. Slow numbers like the stark and poignant "The Deeper In" were mildly uncomfortable, while rebel yellers like "Hell No, I Ain't Happy" were plain deafening. Perhaps due to the massive amount of sonic carnage being wreaked, the night took a while to get going, but when the Truckers finally connected with the audience, no one got up the next morning sorry they were a bit deafer. Nonetheless, a pair of construction site ­approved ear muffs might be the smartest thing you can bring to Dick's on Dicks on Tuesday (February 10) when the Georgia band makes its third local pilgrimage in the past year.
