EL-P at Fortune Sound Club

Commenting on YouTube videos is an activity usually undertaken by Justin Bieber detractors, 16-year-olds who breathlessly argue that music was so, so much better in the ’90s, and other assorted trolls and troglodytes. Once in a while, though, someone gets a good one off, like the wag who posted the top comment on a clip of Spinal Tap performing its masturbatory improv exercise “Jazz Odyssey”—which, for the uninitiated, is a skronkfest that straddles the gulf between prog-rock pretentiousness and free-jazz tunelessness. This inspired a user named “wesmatron” to post the following: “I heard this from another room and thought Emerson Lake and Palmer had reformed.” Well, it seems that ELP has indeed reunited, and will be playing Fortune Sound Club on Monday (July 2). Wait a minute… That can’t be right. You couldn’t even fit half of Keith Emerson’s keyboards in that place. Let’s see… Oh. Okay, according to our Time Out listings, the headliner that night is not EL-P, but something called El-P. We’re sure that’s awesome, too, whatever it is.
