      The Polyphonic Spree
Holidaydream: Sounds of the Holidays Vol. One

Famously, the Polyphonic Spree’s stage shows are uplifting to the point where you don’t know what to do first: trade your business suits in for flowing white robes and Jesus shoes, or throw out every piece of music you’ve ever acquired that doesn’t feature a 12-piece horn section and a baroque harpist. The best live spectacle in rock ’n’ roll throws fans a curve ball here, though, dropping the deluded shiny-happy vibe on songs like “Winter Wonderland” and “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”. Both of those tracks, like the rest of the remarkably restrained Holidaydream, are played wide-eyed and full of wonder rather than peppy and cheerful. If you’re in love with meditative walks in the snowy woods, get ready to celebrate. But for Christ’s sake, take off those leather sandals and put on a pair of fucking boots.
