Jinja Safari at the Media Club
Despite the small problems that occasionally crop up—catching dengue fever from mosquitoes, being stampeded by raging white rhinos, or ending up in a giant cast-iron stew pot—everyone loves the idea of a safari. For that reason alone, we’re recommending Jinja Safari at the Media Club this Friday (September 14). The quintet’s founders first met at a beach party in Australia, and at least one of them is the spitting image of Jesus H. Christ, all of which should be tip-offs as to what the band sounds like. Think smiley and smart folk-pop played by a bunch of dudes who hit the stage determined to make Sufjan Stevens look like the most miserable, humourless twat this side of Billy Corgan. Which is, you have to admit, a lot better than ending up the main ingredient in a slow-simmered safari stew somewhere in the middle of the Congo.
