Given its size, local boutique label La-Ti-Da has booked some heavyweight talent for its first ever Fall Down/Get Down festival, running at various venues from November 1 to 3. Besides hosting the final show by our own Pointed Sticks, organizers Dale Davies and Tim Horner are actually flying in ’70s-era Detroit proto-punkers Death to headline a night at the Rickshaw Theatre with Sex Church, Fist City, and Tiger High. It’s the first Canadian show for the revived unit.

“We’re pretty excited about it, for sure,” Davies told the Straight, explaining that Death has been doing sporadic shows since Drag City Records released its lost debut album in 2009. Recorded for Columbia Records in 1974, …For the Whole World to See was shelved because the band refused to change its name.

As for Pointed Sticks, the band has been something of a guiding light for La-Ti-Da, and Davies is naturally “honoured” to host its final appearance. Equally amazing: the whole thing kicks off with an all-ages show at Antisocial Skateboard Shop by the Evaporators that also features a monthlong art exhibit by Tim Kerr of legendary ’80s skate punks the Big Boys.

All of this is augmented with La-Ti-Da artists like the Ballantynes and the Tranzmitors, a Mammoth Cave label showcase, and more. “Tim and I come from that garage-rock revival kinda scene,” Davies said. “Back in those days, these things happened all the time. They were exciting—we’d drive to Bellingham and Seattle to see all these weekenders like the ones Estrus Records used to put on, and that’s kinda what we were trying to put together.” More info is at www.latidarecords.com .
