On Wednesday (October 17), some up-and-coming local bands will perform a classic Beatles album in full as part of the fundraising event Abbey Road on Granville Street. Presented by local songwriter Jordan Klassen at Tom Lee Music Hall (929 Granville Street), the bill also features In Medias Res, Ali Milner, Ma Petite, Zaac Pick, and Bed of Stars.
“We thought about doing Arcade Fire’s Funeral,” Klassen told the Straight, “but I wanted young and old to be able to come and enjoy it, so that’s why I chose the Beatles.”
The evening will feature each artist taking on a handful of tunes, with Klassen and his band performing the iconic medley. “I’m pretty proud of what we’ve done with it. We’ve definitely made it our own,” he said. Tickets cost $10 ahead of time and $15 at the door, with proceeds going to Union Gospel Mission, an urban relief organization based in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
