Make Music Vancouver in Gastown
Hey! What are you doing right now? Assuming you’re reading this on Thursday (June 21), you’re probably marking the beginning of summer with a fervent prayer that Vancouver actually has a summer this year. Forget it. God has more important things to focus on than your wish for a few days of sunshine. He’s busy figuring out which impoverished African nation He’ll slam with drought and famine next, and which coastline to hit with a devastating tsunami. That’s how He gets His kicks, you know. The best we mere mortals can do is go with whatever gets thrown at us and try to make the best of it. Oh, and listen to music, too. There’s plenty of that going on in Gastown today, as Make Music Vancouver takes over Water Street with performances by 150 different acts. These include Violet Height, the Stolen Organ Family Band, Soul Bomb, Monkey Fist, Jack Mercer and the Whiskey Bandits, Chi Sun “The Asian Persuasion”, Squirrel Quasar, My Mother the Carjacker, Jody Quine, and Spooncutters. You may not have heard of any of the above, but given that admission is free, there’s no better time to make their acquaintance. You might even discover your new favourite band, which you’ll have about six months to enjoy. Come December, God, in His infinite good humour, will be squishing us all under His colossal feet like a toddler on an anthill. He’s funny that way.
