Media Club goin' through changes

Comments

The Media Club is one on the most reliable venues in the city, but the long-running establishment has just undergone some significant changes. Don’t worry, though, they’re all good.

Most noticeable for patrons will be that the bar is open a little later than it used to be, with a newly revised licence allowing the club to remain open until 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Behind the scenes, meanwhile, the Media Club has just appointed Gwyn Roberts as its booker. A veteran of the Vancouver scene and previously the booker at the Vogue Theatre, Roberts is excited to bring a balance of touring and local acts to the venue, with the goal of making the Media Club Vancouver’s premiere spot for up-and-comers before they hit larger venues like the Commodore or upstairs neighbour the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

“The emphasis is definitely going to remain on live music,” Roberts told the Straight of his upcoming tenure. “We want to launch bands that you remember seeing when they played the Media Club.”

Last time I was there the sound was so loud & distorted it ruined the performance by Rich Robinson. Also the bathroom was a disgusting and rundown. Those would be good changes

get a new soundman - someone who isn't already deaf. that would be the biggest possible improvement the Media Club could make. I don't go anymore - it's ridiculous.
