The 35th annual Vancouver Folk Music Festival kicked off Friday (July 13) with performers including Dan Mangan, Lucinda Williams, and Serena Ryder.

Musicians at both stages had the crowd singing or dancing along as the sun set on a warm summer evening at Jericho Beach, and the first day of the festival ended with a performance from indie-folk musician Mangan as he stood in the centre of the audience.
The festival continues this weekend at Jericho Beach. The line-up Saturday includes acts such as K'naan and The Head and the Heart.
