Ray Davies at the Vogue
The last time he came through town in 2006, Ray Davies was wobbling around like an inebriated lord by the time he wound up an unforgettably entertaining set at the Commodore Ballroom with a goofy oompah version of “You Really Got Me”. This was largely due to the many and varied pints that made their way to the stage courtesy of an extremely appreciative audience. Always the gentleman, Davies made sure to knock back every one of them as he powered through a set of Kinks classics and a striking handful of new songs, backed by an overamped garage band that was every bit as wonky as their glorious leader, even without the liquor. It all proves that you’re never too old to not take yourself seriously, if you can get your head around that. And if you can’t, the fabulous Mr. Davies will be back to “Do it Again” (see what I did there?) at the Vogue, on Friday (July 13). Don’t miss it like you did the first time, dummy.

One of the greatest shows ever!
Then on to 38 Special at the Cave.
Far too much cheap Oly on the streets that night.
But the acid was great!
