Red Cedar splits with goodbye album

Local folk-rockers Red Cedar officially called it quits this past January, but the group will say its final farewell next week via the release of a new digital LP. Titled PFSF, the swan song will be up for grabs next Thursday (March 15) on the troupe’s website.

Recorded in January 2011 at Hive Creative Labs with producer Colin Stewart, the follow-up to last year’s Enter the Sun Gods is a lot heavier than past work. “I guess you could say it’s psychedelic,” bassist Shaunn Watt told the Straight.

Looking back, it seems clear that the end was near. “Everyone was just focusing on different projects,” Watt said. “It needed a certain amount of commitment that we weren’t really on the same page about.” There’s no record-release show, but Red Cedar’s members continue to play around town. Watt plays drums for Siskiyou, drummer-vocalist-keyboardist Colin Jones and guitarist-vocalist JP Doucet make up drone duo Hierarchies, and singer-guitarist Andy Bishop performs in White Ash Falls.
