Scissor Sisters at the Commodore Ballroom
Scissor Sisters have done a lot of things right in their career. Most admirably, the New York band has always just done whatever it wants to musically, genres be damned. Hence something like “Shady Love”, from the new Scissor Sisters LP, Magic Hour. The single, which features Azealia Banks, combines electro-fried hip-hop and glitter-bomb disco into four-and-a-half minutes of booty-shaking euphoria. The rightest thing Jake Shears and company have done recently, though, is convincing Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme to appear in a mock infomercial for Magic Hour. Shot in a bar, the ad features a possibly drunk and definitely distracted Homme misreading his cue cards, to the point of referring to the artist in question as “Scissor Sitters”. Ouch. Anyhow, now it’s your turn to do the right thing: show up at the Commodore Ballroom when Scissor Sisters play there on Wednesday (June 20). And go ahead and wear that Them Crooked Vultures T-shirt with pride.
