Sumner Brothers are givin' it away

Also available for your listening pleasure is the Sumner Brothers’ long-awaited new album, I’ll Be There Tomorrow. The rootsy four-piece is hosting the record on five different blogs until midnight on Monday (August 13), including Herohill.com (the full list is available at the Summer Brothers website ). “They’ve all been incredibly supportive for the last four to five years,” guitarist-vocalist Bob Sumner explained to the Straight, adding that the official release date is September 15.

The album itself was recorded Basement Tapes–style in an old cabin near Merritt. “The closest neighbour is a couple kilometres away,” Sumner said. “There are horses grazing around. We bring kegs of beer and a bunch of recording gear and hole ourselves away.” The advantages, he noted, are obvious. “We’ve never done it any other way. I think what you give up in any level of professionalism, which isn’t very much these days, you gain in inspiration.”

As with the Brothers’ first album, I’ll Be There Tomorrow was produced by Derek Difilippo, with—naturally—a lot of vintage gear.
