Sweatshop Union at Venue

Comments

Long-running local rap crew Sweatshop Union has a lot of members. How many? Shit, man. Stop asking questions that we’re too blazed to answer. Let’s just say that the group is so big that some of its members have formed side projects that only involve other Sweatshop Union personnel, like Dirty Circus and Pigeon Hole. Or maybe the “side projects” actually came first. Or maybe the ironic facial hair came first, as in “Yo, I grew this dope-ass Magnum P.I. ’stache, now what do I do with it?” The proper answer to that question is either “Drop a résumé off at Budgie’s Burritos” or “Start a hip-hop collective.” Confused? Us too, especially since we just found out that Sweatshop Union is now calling itself the Leisure Gang. Or at least that’s what we’ve gathered from the title of its EP, Sweatshop Union Is the Leisure Gang, but we could be reading too much into that. Anyhow, it’s about damn time we finally got some summer weather, because “King of the Beach” will sound pretty hot bumping out of the trunk of the red 1984 Ferrari 308 GTSi Quattrovalvole we’re renting to go with the Thomas Magnum soup strainer we’ve been cultivating since mid May. It should also go over well when Sweatshop Union plays at Venue tonight (July 12) along with Panther & the Supafly and, possibly, the Leisure Gang.
